We will take the first 15 minutes of class to pose and respond to questions chapter 1 of Anthem inspired for you. Everyone needs to participate AT LEAST ONCE. You have 2 options of participation:
1. To pose questions you were left with having finished the first chapter.
2. To help your classmates improve their understanding by responding to the questions posed.
Keep in mind this is a formal, academic assignment. Be sure, then, to punctuate your response correctly, to use correct capitalization and grammar, etc.
One of the question that I had was why that whenever they street-sweepers or any other group found something why, do they have to report it to the console? Another question I had was why does the console have to make a law or rule about everything?
ReplyDeleteOne thing I am still a little confused about is why Equality-7-2521 uses we and our when talking about himself. If he has broken free of the others, or is at least starting to think for himself shouldn't he be using I and my?
ReplyDeleteOne of the questions I had was when the time period is. It says that the light without flame and the wagon without a horse was in the past, but they use candles and they only live to be 40-45, so based on how much things have changed, it seems like a very different time period than now, but they live underground so it could be the same time period but a different world almost.
ReplyDeleteMy question for the first chapter of "Anthem" is how many men are actually in there group Equality 7-2521?
ReplyDelete"The sky is blue with a deep brightness which is not bright." How can something be filled with a deep brightness but also not be bright?
ReplyDeleteHow do they know who they are talking about when they use different codes, for example: 4-8818, 7-2521.?
ReplyDeletewhat are they aloud to do when it seems like everything is a sin?
ReplyDeleteWhy is there such a harsh punishment for stealing a candle?
ReplyDeleteWhy is it bad to be able to understand school better then another?
What is bad about being 6ft tall and to be 21 yrs old?
In the first chapter i was still confuse on the first page on how it said "it is a sin to write this" because they know what horrible things could happen to them and i just don't get why that would make sense to open a book like that and then have no background for the first page till you get to the 3rd or 4th page. Any help?
ReplyDeleteThe question i had with the reading was trying to understand what the numbers in the writing mean like 5-3000,i just don't get what they mean or stand for.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they made things so strict. Why did they think it was a good idea to force people into doing tasks that they did not enjoy?
ReplyDeletePreston, I'm not positive but I think when he says a deep brightness that is not bright he is referring to not being bright in the sense that it isn't happy and welcoming not that it isn't luminous.
ReplyDeleteWHy does equality7-2521 not want the city council to know about the tunnels when the city council probably already knows about them because they have the materials to figure it out?
ReplyDeleteIf they are all brothers and aren't allowed to think for themselves, why do they all have different codes? And do the numbers in the codes mean anything?

ReplyDeleteOne question that I had while finishing the first chapter was............. What was the Great Rebirth?
ReplyDeleteMy answer to Kaylee Eastridge's question is that they refer to the time that we are in now the "Unmentionable Times." So I think that the author is trying to show that something happened between our time now and they time the book is set it to completely change our government and the way we live. So I think that this is a futuristic book.

ReplyDeleteSheridan I think that in this society you aren't supposed to think of yourself as an individual because everyone is supposed to be equal and even when he's by himself, he's probably saying that because it's all he ever learned.
ReplyDeleteIn the first chapter is what the numbers like equality 7- 2521 mean i still don't get it.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sin Jordan because in a communist society you can't write against your country or criticize it because if you do bad things happen in Russia when the leader is done talking the first person to stop clapping is killed communism can be harsh
ReplyDeleteThe question that I have is that if Equality 7-2521 is not allowed to speak of the times before the Great Rebirth, then how would he have any knowledge of it?
ReplyDeleteThe console probably doesn't want them to know about the world outside and above them, because they have their own laws of the people down under, they don't want them knowing that they have another decision to make of on how to live and where; so they can be themselves.
ReplyDeleteTo Connor the numbers are what group they are what year they are born all kids the same age are together
ReplyDeleteJordon M, your post is removed by the author!!!
ReplyDeleteEven though the council refers to them as equality 7-2521 why don't they use names when the council isn't around?
ReplyDeleteMax on topic
ReplyDeleteBecause it's a sin.
ReplyDeleteIt's like in the holocaust they gave people numbers Easton they are like prisoners.
ReplyDeleteMy question is what reward would those people have gotten if they told the conical about the tunnels they found. why is it important that they know about it?
ReplyDeleteKody those things are bad because they don't see it as being unique in a good way, they see it as you being different or thinking you're better than everyone because you are taller or because you learn faster and they know there would be punishments so they have to do everything to stop that from happening like trying to forget their lessons.
ReplyDeleteIf the numbers are their group and the year they were born, wouldn't the time period be somewhere around 500 years in the future?
ReplyDeleteDo they like all talk at the same time when they talk?
ReplyDeleteMax, I know. I'm the one that removed it.

ReplyDeleteEaston:
ReplyDeleteThey don't want the council to know because they finally found somewhere where they can be completely by them selfs and away from people telling them what to do. It's like there secret hideaway. Your right the council may know that it is there and thats why it was sort of hidden, but that doesn't mean that they want to tell them because they may get in trouble or not get to go there any more.
-Why is the tunnel that they find so forbidden?
ReplyDelete-What was the Great Rebirth about?
-What was so bad about the Unmentionable Times?
-Why are there so many different codes to call each group by and if someone calls their number do all of them come?
-Why is being by yourself so bad? (What if a person in your group smells really bad, you don't want to be around them.)
I wondered why International 4-8818 was so scared to go with Equality7-2521 when they found that hole.
